CUW Installs New Turf at Fitting Field

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin student-athletes, fans, and alumni will experience a fresh new look with the addition of new turf at Fitting Field.

Astroturf installed its RootZone® 3DM Blend onto Fitting Field.

"I am pleased to announce that the turf replacement project at Fitting Field is wrapping up," said Direct of Athletics Dr. Rob Barnhill. "The work should be completed by week's end. We walked the field today and it is beautiful. The colors pop and the logo looks great. I believe that this will provide our soccer and lacrosse student-athletes with a great surface to develop, prepare, and compete. We have some very nice outdoor facilities and we continue to upgrade them as necessary. The last surface lasted us 15 seasons so it was time to address it. It will be a first-rate facility for current and future Falcons."

The upgrades on the turf are part of a continuous improvement of the student-athlete experience at Concordia Wisconsin. Over the past few years, CUW has seen renovations to Tomasini Stadium, locker rooms, R. John Buuck Fieldhouse, Fitting Field, Catalyst Park, CUW Tennis Courts, and Kapco Park.

Featuring monofilament Trionic face fibers and a RootZone system – RootZone 3DM products offer outstanding player protection, excellent durability, and superior aesthetics.

AstroTurf's RootZone 3D Series boasts the RootZone technology. The RootZone is a system of texturized fibers that curl down to create a net-like matrix that encapsulates infill – dramatically reducing infill spray during play and infill migration over time.

The RootZone's benefits are numerous. RootZone 3D fields offer grass-like traction, per independently funded, peer-reviewed research by Michigan State University. Plus, by better keeping the infill in place, the RootZone promotes more consistent footing and more uniform shock absorption over time. With a more uniform infill level, UV exposure to the fibers is more consistent across the field, which boosts the field's longevity.

Fans can see the new turf on Aug. 30, when the Concordia Wisconsin women's soccer team hosts Lawrence in the home opener. The men's soccer team will first play on the turf on Sept. 4 against Carthage. In 2025, men's lacrosse will first compete on the turf on Feb. 22 against Kalamazoo, and the women's lacrosse home opener will be on March 15 against Augsburg.
