MSOE rallies past Women's Soccer in NACC Tournament action

MEQUON, Wis. – Caitlin Liddiard of MSOE scored with 3:07 remaining in the second overtime to complete a comeback victory over Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer in the opening round of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament.
The Falcons held a 3-1 advantage with 11 minutes remaining in regulation before the Raiders started the comeback. Sara Travia scored her second and third goals of the contest over the final 10:49 of regulation to send the game into overtime. Travia also scored the matches opening goal at the 9:55 mark.
CUW controlled much of the match, dominating the stretch from midway through the first half to late in the second half. The Falcons scored three times in that span, building a two goal advantage. Junior Anna Hirssig (Rochester, Minn.) got the Falcons on the board in the opening half with a header off a corner kick from sophomore Emily Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.). The Hirssig goal came with just 3:06 remaining in the opening half.
The Falcons would add two goals just 4:09 apart in the second stanza as sophomores Brittany Klumpp (Rubicon, Wis.) and Carley Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) pushed their lead to two. Pfannerstill assited on the Klumpp goal, while Ciesielczyk tallied her second assist of the contest on the Pfannerstill score, which came at the 63:19 mark.
Unfortunately for the Falcons, Travia and the Raiders wouldn't go away. Each team had some excellent scoring opportunities in the first overtime session. MSOE goalkeeper Margot Giesey made the save of the day midway through the first overtime when she made a leaping stop, keeping the Raiders season alive.
Giesey made four saves to gain her second win of the season, while freshman Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) recorded six saves for CUW. The Falcons outshot MSOE 19-18 as Pfannerstill and Travia led all players with six shots.
CUW concludes its season with a 10-8-1 record, while MSOE will advance to take on top-seeded Edgewood College on Wednesday.
