Falcons Take Down Raiders in 2022 Opener

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW wrestling team took on the MSOE Raiders in a senior night dual with a final score of 33-22.

The two seniors, Noah Hardy (McMurray, Pa.) and Reid McNeill (Bristol, Wis.) were honored for their dedication to the program over the last four years.

The dual started with the 125-pound weight class where the Falcons had to forfeit.

The next weight class was the 133-pound class where junior Gabe Rodriguez (Las Vegas, Nev.) the first MSOE forfeit. One other Falcon would receive a forfeit victory with junior Jack O'Donnell (Huntington Beach, Calif.) taking one at the 157-pound class.

The first match to get two wrestlers was at the 141-pound weight class. Senior Austin Vincent (Stockton, Ill.) scored two takedowns and three four-point near falls to take the tech fall victory 18-0 at the four-minute mark.

In the 149-pound weight class, freshman Bryce Claypool (Morris, Ill.) was defeated by a 1:11 fall after a period one takedown.

Junior Quinn Hoopman (Cedar Grove, Wis.) was the next Falcon to take on the Raiders at the 165-pound weight class. Hoopman scored one takedown and a four-point near fall before pinning his competition at the two-minute mark.

Sophomore Peyton Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) was the second of two Falcons to win by fall. Smith scored six team points for the Falcons with his 1:22 fall victory.

One of the two decisions of the night came from junior Carson Cook (Las Vegas, Nev.). With five total takedowns from Cook, the matchup ended with a 12-2 decision in favor of Cook.

The Last two matchups were the seniors. McNeill wrestled hard but was defeated by a major decision 4-16. Hardy wrestled in the 285-pound weight class and was pinned at the 2:21 mark.

The Falcons turn their eyes toward Lakeland next Friday.
