Wrestling Works in MSOE Invitational

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The CUW wrestling team competed in the MSOE Invitational on Saturday.

In the 133-pound weight class, Gabe Rodriguez, a junior from Las Vegas, Nevada was pitted against a wrestler from UW-Eau Claire in the second round of the championship bracket. 

Rodriguez was defeated by a 4-12 major decision as well as by a 5-7 decision in the third round of the consolation bracket.

Freshman Bryce Rowley (Rifle, Colo.) competed in the 141-pound weight class. Rowley lost by a 4:45 fall in the first round of the championship and by a 0-14 major decision in the first round of the consolation.

In the second round of the championship bracket, sophomore Lucas Regnier (Bradley, Ill.) was defeated by a 4-10 decision. He found some success in the consolation bracket with a 10-4 decision victory in the third round but was defeated by a 4-17 major decision in the fourth.

Bryce Claypool (Morris, Ill.) took on the 157-pound division. After a bye in the first round of the championship bracket, Claypool wrestled to a 4-11 decision loss in the second round. In the third round of the consolation bracket, he was bested by a 4:49 fall.

A Falcon that found a good deal of success was junior Jack O'Donnell (Huntington Beach, Calif.). O'Donnell was another Falcon in the 157-pound weight class and he took fifth overall for the class. Round two of the championship bracket was a 4:38 victory by fall, the third round was another fall in 1:45 in favor of O'Donnell, and he would make the semifinals. 

O'Donnell was defeated by a 6-21 tech fall. In the consolation bracket, O'Donnell was defeated by a 12-15 decision but took a forfeit victory in the fifth-place matchup.

Two Falcons competed in the 165-pound class. Junior Quinn Hoopman (Cedar Grove, Wis.) and sophomore Adler Hen (Milwaukee, Wis.) took on the class. Hoopman took his first matchup by a 10-4 decision but lost his second by a 1-18 tech fall. In the consolation bracket, Hoopman fell at 2:57. The next 165 pounder, Adler Henn, dropped both of his first matchups by an 8-18 major decision and a 9-15 decision.

Another two Falcons were slated to compete in the 174-pound group. Sophomore Peyton Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) won both of his first matchups by a 2:01 fall and a 4:15 fall. He dropped his quarterfinal matchup by a final 1:31 fall. He was also defeated by a 0-8 major decision in the consolation bracket.

Carson Cook (Las Vegas, Nev.) was the second Falcon in the 174-pound weight class. He fell at 2:42 in his first matchup and was defeated in his second by a 4-9 decision.

Senior Noah Hardy (McMurray, Pa.) was defeated in both of his matchups in the 184-pound class by a 1:56 fall and a 6-16 major decision. Junior Alexandros Alexiades (Oswego, Ill.) also competed in the 184-pound weight class. He took a victory in the first matchup with a 4-1 decision but was defeated by a 4:21 fall in the next round. In the consolation bracket, he was defeated by another fall at 1:14.

Junior Jerrell Carey (Chicago, Ill.) took on the 285 pounders along with sophomore Cam Mercer (Glenview, Ill.). Carey was defeated in both of his matchups by a 3-4 decision and a 5-8 decision. 

Mercer fell in the second minute of his first matchup but had some success in the consolation bracket. In his first matchup, Mercer took the 0:28 fall victory but was defeated by a 1-11 major decision the next round.

The Falcons travel to Nashville, Tennessee on the 18th to attend the Gator Boots Duals.
