Wrestling drops both dual meets to Olivet, UW-Whitewater
WHITEWATER, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin struggled on Saturday dropping dual meets against Olivet College and the host No. 20 UW-Whitewater inside the Kachel Field House. The Falcons had four wrestlers each tally a win in the dual meets.
Final Score: Olivet defeats CUW 36-12; UW-Whitewater defeats CUW 43-3

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CUW won just three matches against Olivet, but two of three came in back-to-back bouts. Ben Reagan (Wauwatosa, Wis.) won his bout against Matthew Lopez (Olivet) by decision, 3-0, at the 149 weight division and Pierce Holtfreter (Las Vegas, Nev.) followed with a win by technical fall, 19-2, over John Leark (Olivet) in the 157 weight division.
- Junior Mason Mergener (Crivitz, Wis.) would get the Falcons third win against Olivet two bouts later with a 10-2 major decision win over Nicholas Affricano.
- Sophomore Mitchell Slatton (Granger, Ind.) finished the day 1-1 and gave the Falcons their only win against No. 20 UW-Whitewater with a 3-0 decision win over Christian Dischler.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- Outside of the dual meet, multiple CUW wrestlers partook in the Border Battle Flight that also took place inside the Kachel Field House. The Border Battle Flight had no effect on the teams overall record.
- Junior John Hinson (Greendale, Ariz.) won all of his matches and took the 184 weight class. He won two of his matches by decision and the other by fall.
- Junior Mac Braylock (Atlanta, Ga.) also won three of his bouts -- one by decision, one by fall and one by medical forfeit. He placed third in the 197 weight class.
- Freshman Eric Martinson (Milwaukee, Wis.) finished the day 3-1 in the 165 weight class finishing in third place. His first win of the day came in an intense tie breaker against Nate Mlodzik of UW-Whitewater.
- CUW travels to Wheaton College next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29 and 30, for the two-day Pete Willson Invitational.
