Wrestling struggles during trio of duals
WHEATON, Ill. – Concordia University Wisconsin struggled on Saturday dropping dual meets against Wheaton College, North Central College and the University of Dubuque at King Arena. The Falcons were led by Mason Mergener who won all three of his matches.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior Mason Mergener (Crivitz, Wis.) won all three of his bouts by decision to pace the Falcons during a difficult day. He defeated Stephen Aiello (Wheaton) by decision, 3-1, to start his day. Mergener then earned a 3-1 tiebreaking decision victory over Eric Kirkamn (North Central) prior to winning by decision, 7-3, against Elton Turnage (Dubuque).
- CUW won just three matches against Wheaton, but earned four-straight wins to close the match against North Central to get within two points. The Falcons won three-consecutive and four bouts overall against Dubuque.
- Sophomore Mitchell Slatton (Granger, Ind.) finished the day 2-1 after pinning Tanner VanDalesen (North Central) in 4:06. He then won by decision, 4-0, against Jon Denikas (Dubuque).
- Junior Mason Baumgartner (Slinger, Wis.) also had a 2-1 record and had a victory by fall against Tyler Vittal (North Central) in 1:03.
- As well, senior Pierce Holtfreter (Las Vegas, Nev.) pinned Dominic Taus (Dubuque) in 5:25.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- Of the Falcons 11 victories during the day; four were by decision and three were by fall.
- Mergener improves to 7-2 this season in bouts ending in decision.
- Slatton's win by fall was the first for him this season.

- CUW returns to action on Saturday, January 23 when they travel to Whitewater, Wis., for the UW-Whitewater Border Brawl duals.
