Wrestling competes at Al Hanke Invitational, Sanders voted Outstanding Wrestler
Al Hanke Invitational Results
ELMHURST, Ill. - Greg Sanders earned the Al Hanke
Invitational Outstand Wrestler award after winning the 141-pound
weight class on Saturday afternoon, and Shane Brandl and Casey
Kenealy finished second in their respective weight classes to lead
Concordia University Wisconsin's wrestling team.
Sanders (freshman, San Antonio, Texas) improved to
24-2 on the season after earning three victories by decision and a
technical fall win in four bouts. The 141-pounders championship
victory wasn't easy as he won 12-10 over Jake Denhof from host
Elmhurst College.
Brandl (junior, Clinton, Wis.) earned a pair of
decision wins, 8-1 and 5-2, before falling in the 197-pound
championship bout a score of 5-3. Kenealy (freshman, Hartford,
Wis.) also earned a pair of wins before being defeated in the
165-pound championship bout. One of his victories was a 19-2
technical fall.
Overall, CUW finished in fifth place out of 11 teams
competing. The Falcons had a champion, two second-place finishers
and a sixth-placer.
CUW returns to the mat next Saturday, Jan. 21, when it
travels to Wheaton College and the Spartan Mat Classic to dual
against Manchester College, Augustana College and host Wheaton. The
duals begin at 9 a.m.
