Women’s Lacrosse mauls Marian in the home opener

MEQUON, Wis. – Oh there is no place like home, the Falcons finally returned home on Saturday afternoon and returned to their winning ways with a 19-6 victory over Marian. The victory sends CUW to 1-2 on the young year.

The CUW offense exploded with 14 goals in the first half. CUW had eight goals total through two games heading into Saturday.

Freshman Olivia Niego (La Grange, Ill.) started the scoring on a free position shot.

Junior Kat Oryszczyn (Mukwonago, Wis.) scored the next three goals for the Blue and White.

CUW added goals from Olivia Niego and senior Hannah Beyer (Wayside, Wis.) before Marian found its way onto the scoreboard.

Hannah Beyer wiped the Marian goal away with one of her own 36 seconds later off a pass from junior Sarah Pearson (South Range, Wis.).

Freshman Eliana Fuchs (Brookfield, Wis.) found the back of the net, as did freshman Savannah Schweiger (Eagle, Wis.) and sophomore Isabela Noyle (Baltimore, Md.) before halftime to give the Falcons a 14-3 lead going into halftime.

CUW notched goals from Olivia Niego, Kat Oryszczyn, Savannah Schweiger and Isabella Noyle in the second half.

Eliana Fuchs landed seven draw controls for CUW on Saturday.

Sophomore Colleen Gilligan (Colbourne, Ont.) gobbled up seven ground balls and caused six turnovers in the victory.

CUW outshot the Sabres on Saturday, 37-17. Kat Oryszczyn led the flock with 10 shots, with nine on goal.

Senior Mallory Gurin (Westfield, Ind.) collected seven saves in the victory.

The 19 goals are the most for CUW since a 20-11 victory at Monmouth on April 20, 2019.

CUW looks to keep the good vibes rolling into Wednesday in the NACC opener against Edgewood.
