Falcons win Double OT thriller!

Madison

First place was on the line last night and it was the Concordia Falcons who prevailed, improving to 10-1 in the NAC with a pulsating double overtime win over Edgewood (now 8-3) at the Edgedome in Madison.

Senior Pearl Wallace led the way statistically for the Falcons with 17 points and 10 rebounds but it was (as always) a TEAM effort for Stacey Brunner's cagers as they avenged a 2 point home loss to the Eagles.

Tiffany Hendrickson (15); Melanie Kulibert (14); and Brittany Zietlow (13) were all in double figures with five other Concordia players contributing significant points and minutes to this win.

The game was close throughout with CUW's largest cushion being 44-34 with 15 minutes remaining in regulation. The host Eagles actually battled back to take a 61-58 lead with 2:35 left before Wallace's 3 pointer tied the score.

Down the stretch, Edgewood's Amber Hemp hit a pair of charity tosses for Edgewood before Hendrickson's jumper tied it. Hemp scored again with :15 left but Zietlow countered for the Falcons with only 4 ticks remaining to create a tie at the end of regulation play.

After an Edgewood hoop, Meghan Matthies hit a 3 pointer to give CUW a brief one point lead in the first overtime but it eventually took Kulibert's steal and subsequent score to tie the game again before the first extra session expired.

The officials' whistles were kind to Concordia in overtime number two as Ashleigh Galligan, Zietlow, Wallace, and Kulibert combined to hit 10 of 16 free throws while the Falcons pulled away. Brunner's cagers host CU- Chicago on Friday at 5:30pm in round one of the CIT.
