No.15-Ranked Spartans Sting Men’s Hockey

GENEVA, Ill. – The Falcons came up short on Tuesday afternoon in an NCHA midday contest at No. 15 Aurora. The Spartans secured a 10-2 victory to protect home ice.

The Spartans opened the game on a 6-0 run, with five first-period goals.

A top-shelf goal from junior Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.) stopped the skid for the Falcons. Senior Salvatore Scalise (Calgary, Alta.) fed in the puck to start the breakaway. Freshman Joshua Maine (Tecumseh, Ont.) added the secondary assist.

The Black and Blue responded with two more goals of their own.

Cory Dennis put a pass from freshman Joshua Maine (Tecumseh, Ont.) into the back of the net for the final goal of the day for the Falcons. Alex Way was credited with a secondary assist.

Sophomore Liam McGarva (Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.) finished with a game-high 36 saves. Sophomore Riley Morgan (Scottsdale, Ariz.) added 13 saves on Tuesday. 

The Spartans held a 54-22 advantage in shots on Tuesday.

Freshman Nick Wieben (Mankato, Minn.) led the flock with six shots and Alex Way led the Falcons with eight faceoff victories.

The Falcons will continue their run through ranked opponents on Friday night when they host No. 1-ranked Adrian.
