ANGOLA, Ind. – The Falcons fell short in their NCHA opener on Friday night at Trine. The Thunder rumbled away with a 4-2 victory to send the Falcons to 1-3-0 and 0-1-0 in the NCHA.
The Falcons struck early on Friday with a goal just over a minute into the game off the stick of sophomore Jacob Shankar (Johnstown, Ont.) with assists to sophomore Jordan Guiney (Victoria, B.C.) and junior Michael Fradette (Victoria, B.C.).
The Thunder leveled the game in the second period.
Jordan Guiney gave the Falcons the lead almost halfway through the third period on the power play, off passes from junior Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.) and senior Cory Dennis (Madison, Wis.).
The Thunder zapped CUW with three goals in the final two minutes of play to steal the victory.
Sophomore Liam McGarva (Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.) secured 41 saves in the net on Friday.
Jordan Guiney won 17 faceoffs for the Falcons.
Trine held a 45-15 advantage in shots on Friday, with Corey Dennis and Jacob Shankar leading the way for CUW with three.
The Falcons look to bounce back at Trine on Saturday.
