MHKY: Final 2011-12 Stats

MEQUON, Wis. - The 2011-12 season proved to be a frustrating one for the Concordia University Wisconsin men's hockey team, who finished the season with a 2-20-3 overall record, along with a 2-16-2 mark in MCHA play.

This marked the third consecutive season that the Falcons failed to progress to the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association postseason, as they finished last in the MCHA's Southern Division with just six points.

CUW's two wins came on November 11 against Lake Forest College at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, and January 13 against Finlandia University at home.

The team also earned draws with Lawrence University, St. John's University, and Northland College.

Outside of that, CUW's young roster, which featured 20 underclassmen, came out on the losing end in 20 of their 25 games.

Statistically, the Falcons were led by sophomore forward Russell Johnson (Monticello, Minn.), who finished tied for eighth in the MCHA with a team-high 13 goals, and finished tied for third in the conference with five power play tallies.

Other standout performers included freshman Cole Weiser (Beloit, Wis.), who finished 11th among MCHA defenseman with 12 points, and sophomore captain Shay Klitzke (Annandale, Minn.), who led the team with 11 assists.

Between the pipes, freshman goalie Josh Lehr (Appleton, Wis.) made 679 saves in 20 games, to go along with a .882 save percentage.

CUW should have a young core of players returning next season, which will be guided by a new coaching staff.
