Men's Golf shoots near program record at WLC Invitational

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin had four golfers fire rounds of 77 at Morningstar Golfers Club on Saturday during the Wisconsin Lutheran College Spring Invitational. It was the Falcons best round in a year-and-a-half.

CUW carded a team score of 308 (20-over par) to place in a tie for second place with Carroll University. They were just three shots behind tournament champion Benedictine University. Freshman P.J. Clemins (Cedarburg, Wis.), junior Bill Jones (New Holstein, Wis.), senior Chris Payne (Waukesha, Wis.) and sophomore Evan Rabas (Sherwood, Wis.) all shot a team-low 77 on a beautiful spring day at the par-72 6,875-yard course.

The Falcons were two shots shy of tying the program record round of 306 set at the MSOE Invitational on Oct. 7, 2013. The four Falcons combined for 11 birdies and 34 pars, with Rabas shooting the lowest nine of the group, a 36 on the front nine. Clemins had a team-best 12 pars, while Rabas sunk four birdie putts. Each golfer made at least three-consecutive pars once, with Clemins have done so twice on the front nine. Jones, Payne and Rabas each sunk back-to-back birdies putts during their rounds.

In addition, freshman Kyle Rebholz (West Bend, Wis.) shot an 83, while junior Mike Loftus (Germantown, Wis.) and junior Jason Meyer (Dunlap, Ill.) each had 85s. Sophomore Nolan Dahlberg (Beloit, Wis.) rounded out the lineup with an 88.

Pete Kaufmann (Wisconsin Lutheran) won individual medalist honors with a 1-over par 73.

CUW will complete the weekend at the Lake Forest College Spring Invitational at White Deer Run Golf Club in Vernon Hills, Ill., on Sunday.
