Rabas finishes eighth, Men's Golf places eighth at MSOE Invitational

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. – Evan Rabas led Concordia University Wisconsin at the MSOE Invitational on Tuesday with an eighth place finish, which included the lowest round of his career. The Falcons moved up two spots to take eighth overall at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa's par 71, 6,659 yard course.

Rabas (freshman, Sherwood, Wis.) climbed eight spots up the leaderboard after shooting a 2-over-par 73, which is three shots better than his previous career low. He finished the Invitational just three over on par 4s.

CUW improved 17 shots from the opening round to finish with a 629 total (323-306). The Falcons 306 team total on Tuesday was the lowest round shot by nine strokes since they joined the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference prior to the 2006-07 season.

Edgewood College claimed the team trophy by nine strokes after finishing with a 588 total (293-295). Carthage College took second with a 597 total (297-300). Kenny Rucker (Edgewood College) won medalist honors with an even-par 142 total (69-73), while his teammate Pat Cahill took second with a 2-over-par 144 total (71-73).

Junior Chris Payne (Waukesha, Wis.) carded five birdies at the event and tied for 41st after shooting a 160 total (78-82). Sophomore Bill Jones (New Holstein, Wis.) improved a team-best nine strokes and fired a 161 total (85-76) to tie for 45th. His 76 is the second lowest round of his career and his second round in the 70s.

Sophomore Mike Loftus (Germantown, Wis.) shot a 163 two-day total (84-79) to place in a tie for 47th, while freshman Oliver Sadiq (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) improved eight shots at the Invitational and tied for 51st with a 164 total (86-78). His second round 78 tied the lowest round of his career.

The Falcons sank 16 birdies and made 91 pars at the event. They averaged just .17 strokes over par on par 5s and were sixth amongst 15 teams competing with a 4.49 average on par 4s.

CUW's next event is the first two rounds of the NACC Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis., on Sunday and Monday. The NACC Championship consists of two rounds in the fall and the two rounds in late April at Stonebridge Country Club in Aurora, Ill.
