Wooster Upends Field Hockey in Overtime

WOOSTER, Ohio – The shutout streak came to an end on Sunday afternoon at Wooster. The Concordia defense had not allowed a goal since September 25 at Alleghany. The Scots send the Falcons to 5-6 with the 1-0 overtime result.

The Falcons had their opportunities in the match with 15 penalty corners on Sunday, including five in the fourth quarter and one in overtime.

Senior Emily Binley (Suffolk, Va.) was kept busy all day and finished with 11 saves.

The Falcons had four defensive saves, with junior Abby McGue (St. Louis, Mo.) stopping two and senior Olivia Riemer (Ballwin, Mo.) and senior AnnaLyssia Abela (Dearborn, Mich.) both recording one.

A fast break opportunity for the Scots in the 68th minute found the back of the cage to earn the overtime win.

Wooster outshot Concordia by a 27-17 margin on Sunday. AnnaLyssia Abela led the flock with six shots on the afternoon and with one on goal.

Sunday marked the first overtime contest for the Falcons since Oct. 27, 2019, against Sewanee.

CUW continues its eight-game road trip on Thursday at DePauw.
