Field Hockey Sweeps Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Falcons brought out the brooms on Sunday morning as they swept away Sewanee with another 3-0 victory to close the weekend. The victory sends CUW to 4-5 on the year.

Senior Donna Pitock (Naperville, Ill.) started the scoring when she knocked in a rebound after senior Lorri Pitock (Naperville, Ill.) threw the ball at the Sewanee netminder.

Senior AnnaLyssia Abela (Dearborn, Mich.) scored on a penalty stroke in the second quarter. The Michigan native found the lower corner past the Sewanee goalie's sprawling foot.

Senior Emily Binley (Suffolk, Va.) notched her lone save of the morning right before halftime to give the birds a 2-0 lead at halftime.

The scoring came to an end in the third quarter when junior Berit Poirier (Vista, Calif.) blasted a laser in the net for her second career goal after AnnaLyssia Abela sent the ball in the circle off a corner from junior Abby McGue (St. Louis, Mo.).

The Falcons held a 21-1 advantage in shots on Sunday.

Abela led the flock with five shots on goal.

The Falcons pushed the temp again on Sunday and forced nine penalty corners.

Sunday marked the third shutout of the season for Emily Binley and her 10th career shutout.

This is the first time that the Falcons posted back-to-back shutout victories since the Falcons had a three-match shutout streak in October of 2021 with a pair of victories over Transylvania and a road win at Neumann.

The three goals also tie the most goals in a contest for the Falcons. They also scored three goals on Saturday against the Tigers.

The Falcons look to keep their winning streak rolling on Saturday at Transylvania.
