The Cheese Bowl is Back

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW football team is back to refilling the trophy case. The Cheese Bowl is back at home on the shores of Lake Michigan with a 30-20 victory over Lakeland on Saturday afternoon. The victory keeps the Falcons in the hunt for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) title at 5-1 and pushes CUW to 7-1 on the year.

The Falcons threw the first punch on Saturday when senior James Linn (Chino Hills, Calif.) connected on a slant route with junior Samuel Campbell Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis.) for a 62-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.

The Blue and White added to the lead in the second quarter with a one-yard rush from junior Michael Joshua Jr. (Richton Park, Ill.) to go up 14-0.

The Muskies found the scoreboard with a 70-yard reception.

CUW closed the first half with a pair of field goals from sophomore Zach Heinen (Sand Springs, Okla.) from 39 and 36 yards.

Lakeland started the second-half scoring with a 13-yard rushing town down.

Another field goal from Zach Heinen made it a two-possession game heading into the fourth quarter.

James Linn connected with senior Christian Booker (Chicago, Ill.) in the corner of the endzone to start the fourth quarter with a touchdown.

The Muskies scored late, but a missed two-point conversion and failed onside kick allowed CUW to reel in the fish.

Freshman Jakyri Moore (Dallas, Texas) intercepted a pass for 32 yards and senior Eli Wallace (Davenport, Iowa) recovered a fumble in the victory.

Justice Kaneta led the game with 22 total tackles.

CUW sacked Lane Sobieski three times on Saturday with senior Paul Ball (Kenosha, Wis.), senior Chase Coots (Round Rock, Texas) and senior Isaiah Palmquist (Oshkosh, Wis.) all having a party in the backfield.

James Linn honored senior Tim Houlihan (Lockport, Ill.) today by wearing the No. 0 jersey and shined. The California native threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.

The Falcons ran for 189 yards in the victory. Senior Geoffrey Mazur (Baton Rouge, La.) led the attack with 128 yards.

Samuel Campbell Jr. was over 100 yards again on Saturday with 106 yards and a touchdown.

The Falcons will take a week off for a bye week before closing the home portion of the schedule on Nov. 5. The Falcons look to take back the Luther Cup from Wisconsin Lutheran.
