Late Touchdown Lifts CUW over Eureka

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW football team once again protected home turf on Saturday and sent the homecoming crowd home happy with a come-from-behind victory over Eureka. The Falcons won 23-20 to improve to 5-1 on the year and 3-1 in the NACC.

The lone points in the first quarter came from Eureka on a four-yard rush for a touchdown.

The Falcons tied the game up in the second quarter when senior James Linn (Chino Hills, Calif.) connected with junior Samuel Campbell Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis.) for a 19-yard touchdown pass.

Eureka scored once more to take a 13-6 lead into halftime.

An interception by junior Breven Papallatoc (Las Vegas, Nev.) sparked a drive that culminated in an 11-yard pass to senior Tim Houlihan (Lockport, Ill.) in the corner of the endzone.

Sophomore Zach Heinen (Sand Springs, Okla.) hit a 31-yard field goal to give the Falcons their first lead of the day at 16-13 with 13:24 left in the game.

The Red Devils retook the lead with six minutes left with a 30-yard touchdown rush.

The Falcons marched down the field and with 58 seconds left, James Linn once again found Samuel Campbell Jr., in the corner of the endzone for the game-winning touchdown.

James Linn threw for 169 yards in the victory and for three touchdowns.

Sophomore Pierre Summers III (Columbus, Ga.) led the rushing effort with 58 yards. Samuel Campbell Jr. led CUW with 52 yards through the air.

The CUW defense had nine tackles for loss on Saturday with senior Chase Coots (Round Rock. Texas) and senior Eli Wallace (Davenport, Iowa) both having two.

Sophomore Justice Kaneta (Brighton, Colo.) had 20 tackles in the victory and was in on a sack.

The Falcons travel to St. Norbert on Saturday and look to give the Green Knights their first loss of the season in the NACC.
