Heideman, Adams pitch Baseball to NACC sweep of MSOE

FRANKLIN, Wis. – Sophomore Andrew Heideman and senior Tyler Adams tossed back-to-back shutouts in helping lead the Concordia University Wisconsin Baseball team to a NACC doubleheader sweep over MSOE Sunday. The Falcons posted wins of 4-0 and 2-0 to move their conference mark to 7-5 on the season.

Heideman (Bakersfield, Calif.) needed just 98 pitches in the game one shutout to work through the Raiders batting order. The sophomore right-hander scattered six hits in the complete game effort, while not issuing a walk. He struck out four to pick up his second win of the season.

Adams (Jackson, Wis.) followed suit with an impressive complete game effort where he allowed just four hits and walked one batter. He punched out four batters to move his record to 1-1 on the season. Every other batter Adams retired was a groundout, as he had great control in keeping the ball low in the zone. 

In the opener the Falcons struck for one run in the fifth, one in the seventh and two more in the eighth for the 4-0 win. Freshman Justin Barney (Kenosha, Wis.) paced CUW offense in game one as he drove in three of the Falcons four runs. Barney was one of four players to tally two hits, including a two-RBI single in the eighth inning.

Adding two hits for the Falcons was senior Joel Sharon (Milwaukee, Wis.), sophomore Matt Schubert (West Bend, Wis.) and freshman Nathan Thyssen (Appleton, Wis.). Schubert scored two runs and roped a double, while senior Brandon Seifert (Germantown, Wis.) added a two-bagger in the victory.

Josh Kundinger of MSOE turned in a decent start of his own, throwing 7.1 innings and allowing four runs, all earned. He finished the game with four strikeouts and three walks.

In game two the Falcons scored once each in the second and sixth innings, which was all they needed for Adams. CUW was limited to just five hits in the nightcap, two of those coming from Seifert.

Seifert drove in a run in game two with an RBI single in the sixth inning, while freshman Noah Greenberg (Libertyville, Ill.) gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the second with an RBI single of his own, plating Barney. Barney had the only extra-base hit for CUW, which was a double.

Thomas Hartwick took the loss for the Raiders despite throwing a complete game of his own. Hartwick pitched well, giving up just five hits and two runs, while striking out one and walking one.

CUW (13-13, 7-5 NACC) will return to play with a non-conference matchup at Carroll Wednesday night. First pitch in Waukesha, Wis. is set for 6 p.m.
