Falcons Tie Lake Forest in Slaats Cup Quarterfinals

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey team opened the Slaats Cup Playoffs with a 3-3 tie at Lake Forest.

Sophomore Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.) started the scoring after senior Emily Reimche (Billings, Mont.) stole the puck for the Falcons.

The Foresters tied the game to send the teams to 1-1 after the first period.

The Falcons struck early in the second period on a five-on-three advantage with freshman Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) poked in a pass from sophomore Brooke Gibson (LaSalle, Ont.) and a secondary assist to Amanda Bauer.

The Foresters took the lead with two straight goals.

The Falcons tied the game late in the third period when a shot from senior Colleen Gilligan had a shot trickle in off assists from Emily Reimche and Olivia Kurtz.

The two teams then went to overtime with nothing getting decided.

The Foresters held a 43-42 advantage in shots on Friday.

Senior Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) posted 40 saves in the tie.

The tie is the first for the Falcons since the season opener against Marian.

Amanda Bauer led the attack with nine shots.

Brooke Gibson gobbled up 20 faceoff victories and Emily Reimche won 18.

Senior Colleen Gilligan (Colborne, Ont.) blocked 10 shots on Friday night. CUW finished with 25 blocks.

CUW is now 14-10-2 on the year.

The Falcons can advantage to the NCHA Slaats Cup Semifinals with a victory on Saturday at Lake Forest.
