Baseball Run Rules Lakeland on Opening Day

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin baseball team opened the home portion of the schedule on Wednesday afternoon against the Lakeland Muskies. The Falcons and Muskies split the day with Lakeland taking game one, 10-7, and the Falcons taking game two, in seven innings, 17-1. Concordia moves to 10-7 on the year and to 2-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

The Falcons started the scoring on Wednesday in the first inning when senior Tyler Brandenburg (Saukville, Wis.) singled to left field with the bases loaded to score freshman Graham Kasten (Mequon, Wis.).

The Muskies took the lead with four runs in the fifth inning and two more in the seventh inning.

Tyler Brandenburg took a bite out of the lead in the seventh with a double into the gap in left-centerfield to plate senior Brynden Cleveland (Crestwood, Ill.). Junior Matt Miller (Fredonia, Wis.) then scored Brandenburg with a shot to center field.

Lakeland added four more runs in the eighth inning, but the Falcons did not fold. Sophomore Alex Ames (Plymouth, Wis.) started the comeback with a home run to left field.

Tyler Brandenburg continued his fish fry with a single down the left-field line that enabled Graham Kasten to safely cross home plate.

Another whoopsie moment in center field allowed Brandenburg and senior Josh Aguiniga (Chicago, Ill.) to score off the bat of freshman Colyn Lessila (Germantown, Wis.) to finish the scoring at 10-7.

Senior Luke Bruckner (Fond du Lac, Wis.) had two strikeouts in the start and junior Nikolai Nawracaj (New Lenox, Ill.) had two strikeouts in two innings.

Tyler Brandenburg led the contest with three hits.

The CUW bats exploded for a season-best 17 runs in game two.

Graham Kasten started the on-slot in the first inning with a double to right field that scored Alex Ames.

The Muskies scored their lone run to tie the game in the second inning.

The second inning, however belonged to the Falcons with seven runs in the frame.

Ales Ames got the ball rolling with a slinged blasted through the middle of the infield to land Matt Miller and Josh Aguiniga safely in the dugout.

Brynden Cleveland knocked the ball into left field to let freshman Gavin Crellin (Phoenix, Ariz.) cross the plate.

Tyler Brandenburg continued his dominance with a bases-loaded walk to have Ames safely walk home.

A sacrifice fly to right field for sophomore Connor Lasch (Chicago, Ill.) scored Graham Kasten.

Colyn Lessila closed the second-inning attack with a single up the middle to send in Brandenburg and Cleveland.

The third inning was not much kinder for the fish, with six more runs on the scoreboard.

Alex Ames once again led off the scoring with a thunderous double to left field to send in Crellin. Graham Kasten then doubled down the left-field line for back-to-back doubles to score Ames.

A single to left field from Connor Lasch scored Kasten.

Josh Aguiniga sent the ball past the centerfielder and showed off his speed for a triple that also plated Connor Lasch.

Colyn Lessila cleared the bases with a no-doubt home run over the fence in left field.

In the fourth inning, Brynden Cleveland cruised the ball through the left side of the infield to add Alex Ames to the scoreboard. Graham Kasten also scored on a fielder's choice.

The scoring ended with a single to right field for freshman Milo Upton (De Pere, Wis.) to score sophomore Hayden Reich (Sussex, Wis.).

The Falcons finished with 16 hits in game two and were led by Brynden Cleveland and Graham Kasten with three.

Senior Jack Hribernik (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) reeled in the Muskies on the mound, throwing all seven innings. He finished with five strikeouts and only one walk.

The Falcons look to add onto the winning streak on Saturday against Dominican.
