Falcons Split Pair at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The CUW women's volleyball team finished up their time at the Calvin Labor Day Tournament with a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons got things started with a 3-0 sweep of the MSOE Raiders.

The 25-14, 25-21, 25-17 victory saw double-digit kills (10) from senior Gabriella Kaebisch (Paddock Lake, Wis.) who also added two assist blocks for a total of 11 points scored. 

She ended her first game with a .714 hitting percentage with 10 kills on 14 attempts with no errors.

Seniors Sierra Lee (Kenosha Wis.) and Erika Natzke (Morton Grove, Ill.) dished out a combined 35 assists against the Raiders with Lee putting up 20. Natzke added four service aces which was a team-high.

Junior Maycee Karpfinger (Wauwatosa, Wis.) put up an eight-kill performance with three service aces.

Freshman Abby Proefrock (Grafton, Wis.) led the team with 11 digs.

The Blue and White took on the reigning National Championship runner-up and preseason No. 3 Calvin Knights in game two of their busy Saturday.

The Falcons fell with a 0-3 final score but stuck close with the volleyball powerhouse with scores of 15-25, 22-25, and 22-25.

Senior Jenna Chaussee (Chilton, Wis.) led the Falcons with nine kills. She added nine digs as well.

Karpfinger put up another eight-kill performance with sophomore Lauren Shroba (Bolingbrook, Ill.) coming in third with seven.

Natzke and Lee combined for 31 assists with Proefrock dishing out five as well as claiming 16 digs.

The Falcons head to Carthage to take on the Firebirds in their next matchup on Wednesday.
