Reiter scores five goals, Wooster controls Women's Lacrosse

MEQUON, Wis. – The College of Wooster proved to be the stronger team and took advantage of Concordia University Wisconsin fouls on a cold and blustery Thursday afternoon to earn a 14-5 non-conference women's lacrosse victory at Fitting Field.

The Fighting Scots converted an impressive 5-of-7 free position shots and increased their six-goal halftime lead quickly in the final 30 minutes of play. From the start, it was apparent the Fighting Scots was the more aggressive team; however, it committed 28 fouls in the game.

The Falcons clawed back the entire game, but committed timely errors inside the 12-meter circle, which gave the Fighting Scots the advantage. Four of the first nine goals scored by the Fighting Scots were of the free position variety.

Offensively, sophomore Sammi Reiter (Stillwater, Minn.) led all players with five goals. She also picked up four ground balls, won two draw controls and caused two turnovers. Sophomore Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) won four draw controls and picked up four ground balls, while senior Sam Meuwissen (Chanhassen, Minn.) won three draw controls and picked up four ground balls.

Ellie Hudson-Heck scored four goals to lead a balanced Fighting Scots (3-1) attack that saw nine players find the back of the net. Shawna Ferris led all players with six ground balls, while Clare Nelson-Johnson won four draw controls and Molley Sennett caused a game-high four turnovers.

CUW (1-1) struck the scoreboard first when Reiter tallied a pair of goals, the first a free position shot, within the first six-and-a-half minutes. The Fighting Scots answered with eight goals over the next 22:40 – including two goals just four second apart – to take an 8-3 lead at halftime.

After the teams warmed up in the locker room at halftime, the Fighting Scots continued its offensive attack with six goals throughout the second half.

CUW returns to the field next Tuesday with the first of back-to-back Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference games at Aurora University starting at 4 p.m. Next Wednesday the Falcons will travel to Augustana College for a 7:30 p.m. showdown.
