Women's Lacrosse wins in record setting fashion over Fontbonne

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin set numerous records on a cold Saturday afternoon as it blew by Fontbonne University with an 18-7 victory in the season and Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference opener at Fitting Field.

The Falcons set or tied five new single game team records and sophomore Sammi Reiter broke two individual game records in the win. CUW's offense was explosive from the start scoring 10 first-half goals and finishing with a commanding 38-15 shots on goal advantage.

New team programs records set or tied were points (22), goals (18), assists (4), shots (38) and draw control wins (21). The Falcons also picked up 30 ground balls and converted 3-of-7 free position shots.

Reiter (Stillwater, Minn.) slammed home five first half goals and added three in the second half to finish with eight points, both of which are new individual game record. Heckendorf also set an individual game record with nine draw control wins. It was a collective effort, however, as seven Falcons found the back of the net.

Sophomores Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) and Stephanie Barry (Gurnee, Ill.) along with senior Sam Meuwissen (Chanhassen, Minn.) each added two goals apiece. Freshman Katherine Pauletti (Roseville, Minn.) tallied her first career goal in the second half.

Sophomore Rebecca David (Oregon, Wis.) picked up the win between the pipes after recording five saves.

The Falcons offense wasted no time putting the scoreboard operator to work, as they marked four goals in the first eight minutes of the contest. They later added three goals during a three minute and 22 second span to build a 7-3 advantage.

With two goals to end the first half and five-consecutive to begin the final half, CUW blew the game wide open and led 15-4 with just under 21 minutes to play. FU (1-2) added three-straight goals in the second half, but the Falcons answered with three of their own before the final horn sounded.

CUW returns to action on Wednesday with a non-conference matchup against the College of Wooster at 4:30 p.m. at Fitting Field.
