SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – The CUW women's basketball team fell short at Lakeland on Saturday, 51-58. The Muskies victory sends Lakeland to 1-1 on the year and 1-1 in NACC play. CUW falls to 3-2 on the season and to 1-1 in the NACC.
The Falcons held a 16-14 lead after the first quarter on Saturday. The Blue and White were aided by a 9-0 run late in the quarter to take the lead.
The two teams kept the score close throughout the second quarter and the Falcons went into halftime leading, 29-26.
The Muskies held a 15-11 margin in the third quarter to lead, 41-40.
Senior Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) drained a free throw with 2:44 remaining to give the Falcons the lead at 49-48, but the Muskies finished the game on a 10-2 run to ground the Falcons.
Senior Clara Chambers (Mineral Point, Wis.) led CUW with 17 points and five steals on Saturday.
Sophomore Lindsey Smitsdorff (Coon Rapids, Minn.) secured 12 rebounds in the loss. Senior Hannah Boettcher (Columbus, Wis.) finished the game with 10 points.
Lakeland finished the game with a 43-38 rebounding advantage.
This is the third-straight season that the two teams have split the season series.
CUW will look to get back on track on Friday night against Alverno.
