15th-Ranked Falcons Freeze Sabres in Fond Du Lac

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The 15th-ranked Falcons remain unscathed in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference after a chilly twin bill at Marian. The Falcons froze the Sabres with a 9-2, 9-6 sweep to elevate to 26-3 on the year and to 15-0 in the NACC.

It took a lit while for the Falcons to unthaw in game one, but the Falcons opened up the floodgates late.

Sophomore Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) started the scoring with a single to center field in the fourth inning to plate sophomore Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.). Senior Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) then scored Bloyer on a double into right field.

In the fifth inning, Jess Pozezinski smacked the ball through the left side of the infield to score freshman Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.).

The birds broke the game open with five runs in the seventh inning.

The bat of the reigning NACC Position Player of the Week, junior Madi Wheat (Coweta, Okla.) scored Rylie DuVal and sophomore KianaMarie Taccad (Chicago, Ill.).

A wild pitch scored Sydney Erdmann.

A single into the gap in right-center field from Jess Pozezinski allowed Madi Wheat to reach home plate.

A single from Gabbi Gaziano inside the infield put Jess Pozezinski on the scoreboard.

Junior Caitlyn Huberty (Coleman, Wis.) showed her speed and stole second base, which resulted in Megan Bloyer taking home plate.

Senior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) took a no-hitter performance into the seventh inning on Wednesday. She finished with 13 strikeouts in the victory.

The Sabres scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but that would not be nearly enough to rally.

Jess Pozezinski, Megan Bloyer and Rylie DuVal all had two hits in the victory.

The Sabres struck first in game two on Wednesday with a run in the first inning.

The Falcons snagged the lead in the second inning when sophomore Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.) crushed the ball out of the park in center field to also score senior Ashley Zappa (Zion, Ill.)

The Sabres reclaimed the lead with three runs in the second inning.

The Falcons flipped the script with three runs in the fourth inning.

Jasmine Freeze struck again with a single up the middle that scored Gabbi Gaziano.

Sophomore Adrianna Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) scored Ashley Zappa on a fielder's choice.

Junior Emily Walters (Waupun, Wis.) closed the scoring in the fifth inning on a double steal.

A sacrifice fly tied the game for the Sabres in the seventh inning to force extra innings.

Madi Wheat got the ball rolling in the ninth inning with a single into left-center field that allowed Ashley Zappa to cross home plate.

Jess Pozezinski poked the ball to third base and scored Rylie Duval.

Megan Bloyer put the exclamation point on the ninth with a single into the gap in right field to send in Madi Wheat and Sydney Erdmann.

The Sabres scored a run, but it was not enough for the Sabres to avoid extinction.

Senior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) struck out three Sabres in the start.

Jasmine Freeze earned her first collegiate victory in the circle with two strikeouts.

Ashley Zappa silenced the Sabres with three hits in game two.

The Falcons are scheduled to return to action on Saturday against Lakeland.
