Softball announces 2020 recruiting class

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW softball program and head coach Steve Crook are pleased to announce the latest group of incoming student-athletes for the upcoming 2020-21 athletic year. The NCAA passed legislation for Division III which allows incoming student-athletes to sign a celebratory form to show they have committed to a respective institution and athletic program. CUW looks to add 16 players.

Madison Wheat comes from Coweta, Oklahoma, where she was an All-State selection in the outfield and was the Co-Conference Player of the Year. She intends to major in athletic training.

"Madi will provide both speed and power to our line-up," said coach Crook. "As a four-year starter, she stole 37 bases and hit eight home runs. We are very pleased she has chosen CUW!"

Caitlin Huberty hails from Coleman, Wisconsin, where she was the Marinette/Oconto Conference Player of the Year and a WFSCA All-Star selection. She plans on majoring in nursing.

"Caitlin is an athletic and versatile softball player who hits well to all fields and has remarkably soft hands," said Crook. "An all-around gifted player and a great fit for our program!"

Morgan Dercola is a native of Sussex, Wisconsin, she is a transfer from Madison College. She was the Greater Metro Conference Player of the Year, a WFSCA All-Star, who hit .425 as a freshman at Madison College. Dercola plans on majoring in radiology.

"Morgan is an outstanding hitter with an absolute cannon for an arm," Cook stated. "She can play several positions including catcher and outfield. Morgan is a tremendous competitor and we are very excited to have her as a Falcon!"

The Falcons have added others that look to build a bright future at CUW. Elyse Bucheit, a talented pitcher from Wheaton, Illinois and Nicole Grove a gifted and versatile player from Sussex Hamilton who is also a WFSCA All-Star. The talent runs deep in this year's group with several more players who could help the program during their time at CUW including eight from the state of Wisconsin in Alexis Bridenhagen from Neenah, Wisconsin, Riley Johnson from Butler, Wisconsin, Emily Walters from Waupun, Wisconsin, Ashlyn Pagel from Appleton, Wisconsin, Jewel Waupekenay from Keshena, Wisconsin, Taylor Liebenow from Oakfield, Wisconsin, Avery Olafson from Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and Lydia Bouc from Brodhead, Wisconsin.

CUW also added two more players from Illinois is Janelle Barnhardt from South Beloit, Illinois and Grace Dierwechter from Algonquin, Illinois.
