Men's Cross Country runs together at Gene Davis Invitational

APPLETON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Cross Country team saw its top eight finishers run within a minute of each other as the team competed at the Gene Davis Invitational Saturday. The Falcons finished fifth in the race, fourth among Division III schools.

THE BASICS

Falcons Score: 106 points (Rutkowski – 16, Taylor – 18, Fell – 21, Bernau – 25, Neuwirth – 26)
Location: Reid Municipal Golf Course – Appleton, Wis. (hosted by Lawrence University)
Team champion: Wisconsin Track Club (note: UW-Stevens Point was the top DIII school).

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Sophomore Tanner Rutkowski (Wauwatosa, Wis.) paced the Falcons by running a PR time of 27:09 in the 8K race. He finished 16th in the 80-competitor field.

- Coming in just behind Rutkowski was junior Michael Taylor (Denmark, Wis.) who ran a 27:12. The time was a season-best for the junior and just 12 seconds off his PR.

- The next two runners for the Falcons were seniors Adam Fell (Mundelein, Ill.) and Stephen Bernau (Courtland, Minn.). Fell posted a PR time of 27:19, while Bernau posted a season-best mark of 27:36.

- The final scoring runner for the Falcons was sophomore Tyler Neuwirth (Mukwonago, Wis.). Neuwirth posted his best time of the season by navigating through the 8K course in a time of 27:41, good for 26th place.

- The next three CUW runners were all within a minute of Rutkowski as well, as they year of pack running continues to prove true. Sophomore Brennan Linse (Jefferson, Wis.) ran a PR time of 27:45, while junior Zach Ziemann (Jackson, Wis.) posted a season-best mark of 27:57. Senior Alex Rosenau (Van Dyne, Wis.) was next in line with a 28:07.

Four other Falcons ran in the 8K on Saturday. Here are there times.

- Sophomore Brandon Goesch (Germantown, Wis.) – 29:02 (season-best)
- Sophomore Emanuel Huerta-Gutierrez (Walworth, Wis.) – 33:04
- Freshman Matthew Wilcox (APO, AE) – 33:46 (season-best)
- Freshman Michael Wilcox (APO, AE) – 36:31 (season-best)

- CUW will compete at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational. The men's race is set for a noon start, following the women's run.
