Men's Cross Country seventh at Roy Griak Invitational

FALCON HEIGHTS, MINN. – Competing at the always-challenging Roy Griak Invitational, the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Cross Country team ran to a seventh-place finish Saturday. The Division III event featured 15 teams from across the Midwest.

THE BASICS

Falcons score: 189 points (30 – Fell, 32 – Taylor, 40 – Rutkowski, 41 – Ziemann, 46 – Neuwirth).
Location: Les Bolstad Golf Course – Falcon Heights, Minn.
Team Champion: UW-Oshkosh (28 points)

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Senior Adam Fell (Mundelein, Ill.) paced the Falcons Saturday as he placed 30th out of runners who counted towards team scores. Fell ran a time of 28:40.9 in the 8K event.

- Fell was followed closely by junior Michael Taylor (Denmark, Wis.). Taylor was 32nd among scoring runners, completing the race in a time of 28:45.5.

- The next two Falcons finished just one second apart from one another in sophomore Tanner Rutkowski (Wauwatosa, Wis.) and junior Zach Ziemann (Jackson, Wis.). Rutkowski clocked in at 29:12.7, with Ziemann just behind at 29:13.6.

- The final scoring runner for the Falcons Saturday was sophomore Tyler Neuwirth (Mukwonago, Wis.). Neuwirth navigated his way through the 8K course in a time of 29:20.5.

- CUW had five others compete in Saturday's race, here that list and their times:

- Freshman Matthew Wilcox (APO, AE) – 39:26.8.

THE OPPOSITION

- UW-Oshkosh cruised to a team title Saturday as the 13th-ranked Titans scored 28 points and posted five runners inside the top 10.

- The individual champion came from Bethel as Matt Berens was the first to complete the course. Berens ran his race in a time of 26:30.

- There was one other NACC school competing Saturday as MSOE finished in fourth place with 107 points.

ABOUT THE MEET

- The Roy Griak Invitational is one of the largest cross country meets in the country, hosted by the University of the Minnesota. The event, now in its 30th year, features six collegiate races and four high schools races. More on this event can be found here.

UP NEXT

- The Falcons will take next weekend off before taking part in the Gene Davis Invitational October 10. The meet, hosted by Lawrence University at Reid Golf Course, is set for a 10 a.m. start with the women. The men will race at 11.
