Men's Lacrosse Tripped Up at Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Concordia Wisconsin men's lacrosse team took a close loss to the Carthage Firebirds on Wednesday night, losing in a 17-12 matchup that saw the Falcons drop to 5-3 in the 2024 season.

Senior Parker Beaudry (Sherwood Park, Alta.) opened the scoring for the Falcons in the first quarter, but the Firebirds proved to hold a 4-1 advantage by the end of the frame.

Concordia powered to within one in the early stages of the second quarter, recording a pair of goals just six seconds apart. After assisting on the first goal by freshman Tyler Husby (Eagan, Minn.), freshman Jaxon Hill (Bismarck, N.D.) took responsibility for the second goal of the sequence.

Carthage snatched a goal back in the following minutes, but senior Caleb Ruger (Grafton, Wis.) countered the effort with a goal of his own to pull the Falcons within a single score once again. A scoring run for the Firebirds left them with a comfortable lead prior to the game's midway point, but Husby struck again just before the half to cut into the Concordia deficit.

The two squads traded the opening five goals of the second half, which began with a third goal from Husby to mark his first career three-goal game. Beaudry and junior Max Esposito (Gaithersburg, Md.) potted the other two goals for the Falcons in the stretch, while the latter also picked up a goal in the later stages of the third quarter.

Concordia outscored the Firebirds in the final quarter of play, tallying three goals to Carthage's two. Beaudry scored twice to lead the team with four goals in the contest, while Esposito finished with three entries on the scoresheet.

Freshman goaltender Travis Marquardt (Brookfield, Wis.) finished with 10 saves in the outing.

The Falcons will look to get back in the win column in their next matchup, opening conference play against the 3-3 MSOE Raiders on March 30.
