Penalties Pester Falcons at Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. – The CUW men's lacrosse team traveled to Benedictine to take on the Eagles in some NACC lacrosse action.

The Falcons netted the first goal of the matchup off the stick of freshman Pat Ryan (Western Springs, Ill.). He netted the unassisted goal six and a half minutes into the matchup.

The Eagles snagged two goals to cap off the first quarter with the Falcons behind 1-2.

Senior Keijo Day (Esko, Minn.) started the second quarter with a bang. His unassisted goal also came six and a half minutes into the quarter. 

Benedictine recorded four straight goals to take the 6-2 lead with a pair of man-up goals to end their run.

Freshman Max Esposito (Gaithersburg, Ma.) cut into the Eagle lead with a goal off the stick of Day with 3:41 left in the half.

Benedictine scored one more goal to hold their four-goal lead going into halftime at 7-3.

The Falcons struck first in the third quarter off the stick of sophomore Adam Verner (Portage, Mich.). 

His unassisted goal came just under nine minutes into the quarter.

The Eagles netted two goals to extend their lead over the Falcons with a third man-up goal.

Freshman Chase Drexler (Vernon Hills, Ill.) opened the goal streak for the Falcons with an unassisted goal with 4:51 left in the third quarter. Day followed that up with a man-up goal with an assist from Drexler to cut even further into the Eagle lead. Esposito capped off the third quarter with an unassisted goal to head into the final frame.

The Eagles dominated the fourth quarter with three of the four goals in the quarter. Junior Jack Gromosky (Danville, Ind.) netted the lone Falcon goal in the fourth.

The Falcons fell to 1-1 in NACC play after their battle with Benedictine, but look to bounce back on Monday at Beloit.
