No. 4 St. Norbert skates past Men's Hockey for weekend sweep

DE PERE, Wis. – A seven goal outburst in the third period by the fourth ranked team in the country, St. Norbert College, doomed the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team in an 11-1 setback Saturday. The Green Knights completed the weekend sweep in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series with the convincing victory.

Joe Perry recorded a hat trick to lead the Green Knights. Five SNC players finished with three or more points in the game, including Patrick McCadden who tallied a game-best four, scoring once and assisting on three goals.

Following 20 minutes of play it looked as if the Falcons and Green Knights would be in for another close contest as the scoreboard read 1-0 in favor of SNC. McCadden put St. Norbert up a goal at the 12:45 mark of the opening stanza. Mason Baptista and Blake Thompson, two players who finished with three assists each, assisted on the game's opening goal.

The score would remain 1-0 until the 14:36 mark of the second period when the Green Knights would start their onslaught of goals. St. Norbert would score three times over the final 5:24 of the second period, taking a 4-0 lead into the second intermission.

The Green Knights (14-2-1, 9-1-0 NCHA) put the game away with four goals in a 3:11 span during the final stanza, making the score 8-0. Perry scored his second goal of the contest during that run as he would go on to finish his hat trick later in the third period.

CUW (8-6-3, 5-4-2 NCHA) would get its lone goal at the 11:57 mark of the third period on a score by freshman Brett Penner (Medstead, Saskatchewan). Penner's goal was assisted by sophomore Devin Stuermer (Milwaukee, Wis.). The point for Stuermer marked the eighth straight game in which he has recorded a point, extending his school record in the process.

SNC would go on to score three more times, making the final score 11-1. Perry's hat trick scoring goal came at the 12:21 mark of the final period and was assisted by McCadden.

Sophomore Domingo Torrenueva (Oshawa, Ontario) got the start in net for the Falcons and finished the game with 40 saves. SNC dominated possession throughout as they finished the game with 58 shots compared to just 22 for the Falcons. David Jacobson made 21 saves for the Green Knights, moving his record to 11-0-1 on the season.

The Falcons will look to get back on the winning track Thursday when they host Lake Forest College in a NCHA matchup at the Ozaukee Ice Center. CUW beat the Foresters 6-4 earlier this season. Puck is set to drop at 7 p.m.
