CUW Men's Golf opens season at Culver Classic

JANESVILLE, Wis.-  Viterbo University topped the talented 17 team field at the Viterbo Golf Classic hosted by Edgewood College this weekend.

Concordia Wisconsin finished ahead of only conference opponent Benedictine with a 681 (113 over par) total during the two day event.

Freshman Mike Loftus (Germantown, Wis.) and Chris Payne (So./ Waukesha, Wis.) each had 36 hole tallies of 168 to tie for 68th individually.

Freshman Elijah Galssenapp (Milwaukee, Wis.) wound up at 172, while the other CUW counters were Jason Meyer (Fr./ Dunlap, Ill.) at 174, and Cameron Herdt (Fr./ Oconomowow, Wis.) coming in at 176.

Aaron Rondon of Southwest Tech headed the field with impressive scores of 72/72 to finish two over par.

"The CUW score does not tell the story," said coach Ray Engelking. "We got off to a good start (day 1). We had to DQ our best score because of a conflict on scoring the last hole and our second best score was compromised because of a penalty ruling in the second round. Five out of six players were playing in their first college event.  Let's call it a learning experience. We will do much better. We have a lot of new and talented players!"
