Baseball drops non-conference game against St. Norbert

MEQUON, Wis. – St. Norbert College scored two runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh, coming back for a 7-6 win over Concordia University Wisconsin Wednesday at Kapco Park.

The four-run seventh inning was capped off by a two-run single off the bat of Chad Ljunggren. Three of the four runs scored were unearned as the Falcons only error of the game proved costly.

St. Norbert combined the timely rally with a strong relief pitching performance from Travis Mason. Mason came on in the sixth inning and was perfect in his four innings of work, striking out five. He earned his first win of the season in the process.

Freshman Luke Wirtz (Marshfield, Wis.) impressed again at the plate for the Falcons, making the start at catcher. Wirtz finished the game 2-for-4, which included a two-RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, giving the Falcons a 6-1 lead at the time. Junior Joel Sharon (Glendale, Wis.) added two hits, including an RBI double in the third inning.

Ljunggren finished with a game-high three RBIs for the Green Knights, finishing the game 2-for-4. Mason had two hits at the plate as well, while Adam Enwiya was 2-for-2 with three runs scored.

The Falcons used four different pitchers in the game which was started by junior Michael Winter (Cedarburg, Wis.). Winter threw four innings, allowing one earned. Junior Michael Klaver (Germantown, Wis.) was the pitcher of record. Junior Colin Bernreuter (Frankenmuth, Mich.) and freshman Dylan Gausman (Eagan, Minn.) also saw action, Gausman throwing 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.

CUW (5-7) will return to action this weekend when they visit Benedictine University for a NACC doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. The Falcons will follow that with a home twinbill against Aurora University on Sunday at noon at Kapco Park.
