Zymanek leads Falcons in first day of NACC-IIAC Challenge

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin split matches on the first day of the NACC-IIAC Challenge defeating Central College, 3-0, but fell to Buena Vista University, 0-3.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons began the day with a 3-0 win over Central which extended their winning streak to eight matches.
- CUW never trailed in set one against Central, but in set two CUW fell behind 18-14 before sophomore Kaily Moegenburg (Plymouth, Wis.) put on an impressive serving display.  She helped give CUW the lead back that they would never give up the rest of the set. In set three CUW only trailed 1-0 before they took the lead for the rest of the set.
- The Falcons were led by sophomore Terese Zymanek (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) who tallied 10 kills while freshman Makenzie Paszek (Sussex, Wis.) added six kills to help lead the Falcons to the win.
- CUW hit the ball extremely well in the first set only committing one attack error and had a .448 (14K-1E-29A) attack percentage. CUW finished the match hitting an overall .262 (31K-9E-84A) attack percentage compared to Central's .144 (37K-22E-104A) attack percentage.
- Defensively, the Falcons played extremely well recording three solo blocks and seven block assists, where Central did not have any blocks for the entire match.
- In their second match of the day, CUW battled a tough Buena Vista squad but were swept by the Beavers, 3-0.
- The Falcons led for most of all three sets, but the Beavers kept it close and used some late runs to win the match.
- Zymanek and Moegenburg both led CUW with eight kills apiece against Buena Vista.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- In the second set against Central, Moegenburg served back to back service aces to start a 4-0 run to give the Falcons the lead back and never trailed the rest of the set.
- CUW served the ball well against Central serving seven service aces in the match for the third time this season.
- The Falcons only committed nine attack errors against Central which is their lowest amount of attack errors in a match this season.
- CUW did not have a player record double-digit kills against Buena Vista.
- Despite the loss that ended the Falcons winning streak; the eight match winning streak the Falcons put together is the longest winning streak by any Falcon team since the 2010 season when they won 14 in a row.

THE OPPOSITION
- Madison Egger led Central with 17 assists, but no Dutch player was able to reach double-digit kills. Kylie Gerstein led the Dutch with nine kills.
- Maddie Bardole, Jade Schaap, and Emily Mathews led Buena Vista with 11 kills apiece. Laura Barry led the Beavers with 37 assists and also added 13 assists.

- The Falcons take on Wartburg at noon and Coe at 4 pm tomorrow for the final day of the NACC-IIAC Challenge.
