Karsten places second in age group, Falcons compete in CyMan Triathlon

Bondurant, Iowa – Concordia Wisconsin's Triathlon team returned to competition on Sunday at the CyMan Triathlon, a Sprint Distance race. This race was an Age Group race that was focused on collegiate racers.

QUOTING HEAD COACH ANDREW SHANKS
"The goal of the race was to push the effort on the bike, knowing that the run would greatly suffer," head coach Andrew Shanks stated. "The course was tougher than expected with head winds and hills on the back half, but the Falcons were tough and now all the stronger for having overcome the challenges they faced today."

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman Meghan Klement (Muskego, Wis.) led the team out of the water with an impressive swim, the third fastest of the day. Overall, the Falcons performed well in the water, as multiple athletes were faster than in previous events.
- The bike portion of the race featured junior Mary Karsten (Waupon, Wis.), who set a blistering pace and had the fastest bike split in her Age Group by nearly a minute. All of the Falcons performed well on the bike, given the wind and terrain. Each set a faster miles per hour average on a tougher and longer course than Maple Grove three weeks prior.
- The final event of the CyMan saw Mary Karsten also finish second in her Age Group. Klement and senior Rebecca Gutzmann (Plano, Texas) were also close, but just missed a spot on the podium.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- The Falcons return to competition on Saturday, September 24th with Tri Rock Lake Geneva, which will also be an Age Group race, in Lake Geneva, Wis.
