Bio

Steven Anschutz serves as the Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach at Concordia University Wisconsin and has made his mark on both programs in just a short time.

Anschutz has served as the Women's Head Coach since the spring of the 2012 season while taking over the men's program in 2015. Over seven seasons in NACC play of both the men's and women's programs, Anschutz has posted a 59-8 conference record, with two NACC Regular Season Championships on the Women's Side.

Anschutz's Women's program has been dialed in over the past few seasons, winning 19-consecutive NACC matches. The Falcons have won back-to-back NACC Regular Season titles, and also captured the NACC Tournament title in 2015-16, while they look to repeat in the spring of 2017. CUW qualified for the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament in 2015-16 as well.

Anschutz has been named NACC Coach of the Year in each of the past two seasons on the women's side. In addition, the Falcons have received several All-NACC honors under Anschutz, including Ashley Solberg who was named the NACC Freshman of the Year under Anschutz's guidance in 2015-16. On the men's side, Anschutz has coached back-to-back Freshmen of the Year in Brad Guendel (2014) and Christian Docter (2015).

Over his seven seasons combined, Anschutz's teams have never finished worse than third in the NACC. In each of his first seasons with the men's and women's program, the Falcons placed third. The following two years on the women's side CUW finished second before capturing back-to-back titles. The Falcons also improved on the men's side as well, finishing second in 2016 after the third place finish in 2015.

Anschutz has guided the Falcons to a program record for wins in a season for both of his programs, both of those coming during the 2015-16 school year. The Falcons Women's team went 21-7 overall in 2015-16, while the men's program posted an 18-8 record.

During his tenure as head coach, Anschutz has coached 10 All-NACC Singles players for the Falcons Women's team, while also guiding seven All-NACC Doubles teams. In two seasons leading the Men's program, Anschutz has coached three All-Singles Players and three All-Doubles teams.

Anschutz is a former Falcon who had an impressive collegiate tennis career helping CUW win three-consecutive Northern Athletics Conference regular season and tournament titles. He finished his career with a 67-39 overall (25-1 NAC) record in singles play and a 63-44 overall (24-3 NAC) record in doubles competition. Since graduation, he has continued his involvement in tennis and has been a part of the distinguished Paley Tennis Center for more than three years.

While being a tennis instructor, Anschutz has helped coach the top-ranked juniors in Wisconsin. He has also helped start two very strong tennis programs: the Paley Tennis Camp in Fredonia, Wis., and a kids' summer program in Fox Point, Wis.

Beyond being a tennis instructor, Anschutz has helped coach the Nicolet High School varsity tennis teams. NHS has the highest all-time win percentage in Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association tennis history and has one of the strongest high school programs in the nation. While coaching at NHS, Anschutz was the singles coach of both the boys' and girls' tennis teams. Under his tutelage, three out of four singles competitors on the girls' team made WIAA State Tournament appearances, along with two out of four boys' single competitors. None of those players had made it to the WIAA State Tournament previously.

He attributes much of his personal success in tennis to being a student of the game; always learning from other players, coaches, and even his own players. "I have high hopes for the CUW Falcons Tennis programs. Our number one goal will be to continue to grow and achieve individual and collective success."
