Women's Tennis blanks Alverno in NACC matchup

MEQUON, Wis. – The winning streak is now three matches in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play for Concordia University Wisconsin on Wednesday with a 9-0 women's tennis shutout win over Alverno College.

The Falcons (3-0, 3-0 NACC) cruised through doubles play before taking each singles match.

"Alverno is a well-coached team and our players did their job tonight," head coach Steve Anschutz said. "A lot of the matches started off close, but we kept our composure and took away some nice wins. Hopefully this match will be a nice confidence booster going into the Saturday matches."

Senior Kristine Weber (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and freshman Jessica Sapp (Memphis, Mich.) won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles to lead CUW.

Freshman Rachel Schmitz (Poplar Grove, Ill.) blanked her No. 6 singles opponent, while Sapp won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and sophomore Amanda Ropiak (Franklin, Wis.) earned a 6-1, 6-1 win a No. 4 singles.

CUW begins a five-match road trip on Saturday at Concordia University Chicago (10 a.m.) and Dominican University (2 p.m.)
