Women's Tennis cruises to victory over MSOE in final home match of season

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin usually cruises to easy victories in Northern Athletics Conference play, but on Wednesday afternoon visiting MSOE proved to be a tough opponent. The Falcons, however, ended the match with a 9-0 victory at North Shore Country Club.

CUW's (8-1, 8-1 NAC) top doubles combination of senior Callie Reinke (West Allis, Wis.) and junior Kristine Weber (Rochester Hills, Mich.) was forced into a tiebreaker before winning. Sophomore Emily McCormick (Waukesha, Wis.) and freshman Taylor Reszcynski (Greenfield, Wis.) had no trouble winning, 8-0, to give the Falcons an early 3-0 advantage.

During singles play freshman Amanda Ropiak (Franklin, Wis.) led CUW with a 6-1, 6-0 win over her opponent, while McCormick earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

"Another great team victory," head coach Steven Anschutz said. "Even with our top two players sitting out, we controlled the majority of matches and got some really nice wins. I was very proud of our women tonight. We had to deal with some tough tennis and they acted with the highest level of sportsmanship, and let their games speak for themselves."

Following the match, the team was invited for a dinner at President Patrick Ferry's house.

CUW returns to play on Saturday with a 10 a.m. NAC match at Lakeland College.
