Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Eagles in Season Opener

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia Wisconsin women's lacrosse team kicked off its 2024 season on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Northwestern-St. Paul Eagles 13-8. Sophomore Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J.) found the back of the net three times in the outing after scoring a team-leading 46 goals in 2023.

Freshman Carolyn Bourgeault (Kenmore, N.Y.) took responsibility for the Falcons' first score of the season with her first career goal, giving Concordia an early 1-0 lead off of an assist from senior Eliana Fuchs (Brookfield, Wis.).

The Eagles potted four goals before the end of the opening quarter to take a commanding lead into the second frame.

Junior Kami McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) picked up the Falcons' second goal of the game in the quarter, while Cardinale cut into the deficit before the end of the first half, making the score 8-3 entering the third.

Concordia collected five goals in the early going of the second half, as Fuchs found her first goal of the season, while junior Natalie Mackrell (Stuttgart, Germany) tallied another score just 40 seconds later. Cardinale notched a pair of goals later in the frame before Bourgeault earned her second of the game in the quarter's final minute.

Northwestern-St. Paul tallied three goals in the fourth and final frame to take a 13-8 victory in the match.

Freshman goaltender Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ontario) stopped four shots in the contest.

The Falcons will be back in action on March 5 against the 2-3 SCAD Bees.
