No. 4 Adrian slips past Women's Hockey in regular season finale

ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian College scored two goals over the final eight minutes of the third period, one of those an empty netter, to edge the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team in the regular season finale Saturday night.

Logan Taylor netted the game winner for the Bulldogs at the 12:55 mark and Courtney Millar recorded the empty net goal with one second remaining to make the final 3-1.

The Falcons had a 1-0 lead after the opening stanza as senior Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) netted her team-leading 16th goal and 25th point of the season. Sophomore Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.) and junior Alexis Machuga (Rochester Hills, Mich.) each assisted on the play, giving the Falcons top producing line three 20-point scorers. Metanova now has 20 points, while Machuga has 22.

Adrian quickly tied the game in the second period as Millar scored her first goal of the night 2:05 into the stanza. Michelle Jones and Sarah Shureb assisted on the Adrian tying score.

Senior Andrea Mizanskey (Palos Heights, Ill.) was impressive for the Falcons between the pipes as she made a career-best 44 saves on 46 attempts for a .957 save percentage. Jade Walsh of the Bulldogs made 19 saves in her 20th win of the season.

The two teams didn't spend much time in the penalty box on Saturday as they combined for just 10 minutes of five infractions. Adrian was whistled three times, while the Falcons were penalized twice. Neither team capitalized on five power play chances.

The Falcons will now gear up for the postseason as they will travel to Duluth, Minn. for an opening round Slaats Cup Playoffs matchup against St. Scholastica. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. next Saturday night with the winner advancing to the semifinals the following weekend at Adrian.
