Balanced scoring attack leads Women’s Basketball over Alverno

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Four Falcons scored in double figures en route to a 77-62 win at Alverno Saturday night. The Falcons bounced back after dropping their last two Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchups.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 77, Alverno 62
Location: Reiman Gymnasium (Milwaukee, Wis.)
Records: CUW 9-3 (6-2 NACC), Alverno 6-8 (3-6 NACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After trailing by one at the end of the first quarter, CUW bounced back by putting together a 9-2 run in the first two minutes of the second quarter taking a lead they would never relinquish.
- Sophomore Audrey Scharmer (Winona, Minn) proved a big spark off the bench scoring 11 points in the first half shooting perfect from the floor.
- Alverno would cut the Falcons lead to five with just over four minutes remaining but the CUW would lock in and the Inferno 15-5 the rest of way. The Falcons would go 10-of-14 from the free throw line during the run.
- Senior Madelyn Landgraf (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) scored a game-high 15 points while also dishing out 7 assists. Senior Megan Coenen (Green Bay, Wis.) added 14 points; Scharmer scored 13 shooting a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor and freshman Baylee Barker (Oconomowoc, Wis.) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10.
- Sophomore Brianna Wagner (Fond du Lac, Wis.) hauled in a game-high 14 rebounds and blocked two shots.
- CUW dominated the boards, out rebounding Alverno 50-23 for the game.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Barker's 10 points is a new career-high for the freshman. She also made her first collegiate start as well.
- The Falcons set three season highs as a team tonight draining six three-pointers, dishing out 20 assists, and scoring 77 points.
- The 50 rebounds by the Falcons is the second time this season CUW has hauled in 50 or more rebounds.

THE OPPOSITION
- Alverno was led by Brooke McBain and Gabby Hood who each scored 11 points.
- Donna Zehner added 10 points and pulled in a team-high eight rebounds.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- The Falcons travel to Wisconsin Lutheran on Wednesday, Jan. 13 to take on the Warriors. Tip-off is set for 7 pm.
