SEWARD, Nebraska- NAIA power Concordia-Ann Arbor (17-4) dominated the rebounding which led to numerous second half transition opportunites during a 74-52 win over Concordia Wisconsin in the first game of the 2013 CIT in Seward, Nebraska this afternoon.
After falling behind 9-0 over the first five minutes, Stacey Brunner-Jones' Falcons showed grit as they battled back to tie the score at 25-25 with four minutes left in the half.
Reserve Jasmine Williams (Fr./ Chicago, Ill.) led that surge with nine first half points including 4-4 from the field.
"Our first half comeback showed determination, but they (Ann Arbor) are a skilled, quick attack team," offered Brunner-Jones.
CUW trailed by just 33-29 at the break, but CU-AA took back complete control right after halftime.
Williams led CUW with a 13 point performance, but no other Falcon reached double figures. Brittany Zietlow (Sr./ Oak Creek, Wis.) and Anna Butler (jr./ Kewaskum, Wis.) totalled seven points each.
Athletic Ann Arbor got 22 points from Abbey Hengesbach and 20 from Hannah Sabol. Sabol got inside the Falcon defense to go 9-12 from the field while Hengesbach was 7 of 14, including two of four from long range.
Rebounds were a big part of the story as the Cardinals held a massive 46-27 advantage including 13 offensive boards. They also shot 47% for the game compared to CUW's 35%.
