Shooting Sports shines at SASP College Nationals

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The CUW shooting sports team competed at the SASP Collegiate National Championships this past weekend in Talladega, Alabama.  The Falcons took second place in three categories.

Senior Nathan Fingeroos (Cedarburg, Wis.) was a medalist in four events with a first-place finish in the centerfire optics. He also earned the silver medal in iron sight rifle, pistol Carbine (PCC) and optics rifle.

The Falcons took second in the 1911 pistol competition with Nathan Fingeroos sitting in fifth place at 53.06. Freshman Hank Bell (Saukville, Wis.) was in sixth place at 66.54, while freshman Cameron Tietz (Cedarburg, Wis.) sat in eighth place at 71.18 and freshman William Harr (Great Falls, Mont.) was in ninth place at 119.44.

The Pistol Caliber Carbine saw the Falcons place third overall. Fingeroos led the way in second place at 38.46, Hank Bell was in sixth place at 40.42, Cameron Tietz finished in 15th place ahead of freshman Alex Steiner (Kewaskum, Wis.) in 16th place, junior Nathan Thomack in (Columbus, Ind.), senior Kurtis Polodna (Dousman, Wis.) in 18th place and William Harr in 19th place.

The Blue and White had seven Falcons in the top-20 in the rimfire pistol optics competition. Nathan Fingeroos led the flock in seventh place at 47.36. The Falcons finished in 12th from 17th place with Hank Bell, Cameron Tietz, Nathan Thomack, William Harr, Kurtis Polodna and Alex Steiner.

CUW had four top-10 finishes in the centerfire optic competition with Nathan Fingeroos taking the crown at 47.86. Cameron Tietz stood in sixth place, while Hank Bell was in eighth place and William Harr landed in ninth place.

The iron rifle competition saw four of the seven Falcons finish in the top-20. Nathan Fingeroos finished with the silver medal with a time of 36.16. Hank Bell led five-straight Falcons in the standings starting in 18th place, followed by Nathan Thomack, Cameron Tietz, Alex Steiner and Kurtis Polodna. William Harr finished in 24th place.

Alex Steiner led the Blue and White in the rimfire pistol competition in 14th place at 68.96 seconds. Nathan Thomack recorded a 16th place finish and Kurtis Polodna finished in 17th place.  

CUW saw Nathan Fingeroos finish in seventh place in the centerfire pistol competition at 51.41. Hank Bell finished the competition in 12th place ahead of Cameron Tietz in 13th place. William Harr rounded out the flock in 17th place.

The Falcons fielded seven competitors in the optic rifle competition. Nathan Fingeroos earned the silver medal again in the competition with a time of 34.46. In 17th-place was Hank Bell. Cameron Tietz landed in 20th place, while Alex Steiner recorded a 24th-place finish, ahead of Kurtis Polodna in 25th place. William Harr ended the day in 26th place and Nathan Thomack finished in 29th place.
