Timmy Brey Voted as Co-NACC Cross Country Athlete of the Year

MEQUON, Wis. – The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) announced its Men's and Women's Cross Country Athletes of the Year on Friday morning. Timmy Brey and Xander Gottner of MSOE were voted as co-NACC Men's Cross Country Athletes of the Year.

A senior from Cedarburg, Wisconsin, Timmy Brey is claiming the honor for the first time.

Brey scored a pair of race victories during the 2023 season highlighted by the individual title at the NACC Championships. He completed the 8-kilometer championship race in 25:39.3.

Brey also won the individual title at the Wisconsin Private College Championships (27:09.3), finished fourth at the St. Norbert College Tom Barry Invitational (6K-19:26.9), 11th at the UW-Parkside Lucian Rosa Invitational (27:35.0), and 12th at CUW's own Ken Weidt Classic.

A three-time NACC Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week, Brey capped the year by securing all-region honors with a 34th-place finish (25:06.5) at the NCAA Division III North Region Championships in Colfax, Wisconsin.

Brey is CUW's first NACC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year and the third Falcon men's cross country runner to earn the league's top individual honor in the sport following Micah Lorenzen (2006, 2007) and Andy Ashenden (2009, 2010).

The awards were voted on by the league's head coaches. The NACC Athlete of the Year awards were introduced in 2022 as standalone honors recognizing the league's top individuals in the sports of men's and women's cross country. Before 2022, the individual champions at that year's NACC Championships were also named NACC Runners of the Year.
