Sabres slash the Falcons

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The CUW men's hockey team came up short against the Sabres of Marian on Thursday night. Marian is receiving votes in this week's USCHO ranking sends CUW to 11-7-2 and to 7-6-2 in the NCHA with a 7-4 victory.

Freshman Brandon Picard (Montreal, Que.) opened the scoring on Thursday night off a pass from junior Braydon Barker (Red Deer, Alta.).

Marian tied the game two minutes later.

Sophomore Luc Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) broke the tie 44 seconds later.

Freshman Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.) extended the lead with assists to junior Cole Pickup (Victoria, B.C.) and Brandon Picard.

The Sabres closed the first-period scoring on the power play.

Junior Nick Guerra (Victoria, B.C.) tapped the puck in the back of the net to open the second period coming off passes from senior Dante Hahn (Victoria, B.C.) and junior Nick Guiney (Victoria, B.C.).

Marian scored the next five goals to take the lead.

Sophomore Bo Didur (West Vancouver, B.C.) finished the game with 38 saves.

Barker broke the school record for points in a season with his performance on Thursday.

The Falcons will look to even the season series on Saturday night at home.
