Jordan Johnson Claims Academic All-American & All-Region Honors

MEQUON, Wis. – The honors came rolling in for Jordan Johnson on Tuesday when the CUW senior was announced as an Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and D3hoops.com also honored Johnson as an All-Region selection on Tuesday.

A senior from Cedarburg, Wisconsin, Jordan Johnson has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-American Third Team for the second-straight year.

The 2021-22 Academic All-American® Men's Basketball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

"To be an academic All-American two years in a row and being selected as all-region academically and athletically this year is amazing," said Johnson. "It really demonstrates how hard I've worked in both the classroom and on the court."

Johnson boasts a perfect 4.00 grade-point average in graduate school as he is working on a degree in psychology. He finished his undergraduate studies with a 3.70 grade-point average.

The Wisconsin native is the lone Concordia Wisconsin student-athlete to repeat as a CoSIDA Academic All-American.

In total, there were five other student-athletes that joined Johnson as a repeat selection on the Academic All-America Division III men's basketball team with Matthew Leritz of Illinois Wesleyan, Buzz Anthony of Randolph Macon, Jack Davidson of Wabash, Gabriel Leifer of Yeshiva and Jack Nolan of Washington University in St. Louis.

Johnson was one of only two members to have a perfect 4.00 grade-point average. The 15-man team collectively held a 3.83 grade-point average.

Jordan Johnson is a five-time All-NACC selection and the 2022 NACC Player of the Year.

"When Jordan committed to CUW we talked about the opportunities for him to do something special," said head coach Shawn Cassidy. "His accomplishments exceeded my expectations but I did not know how far he would push himself. The awards and recognitions are the rewards for his exceptional work on the basketball court, in the classroom, and in the community."

Jordan has done an outstanding job representing the entire Concordia University Wisconsin community.

The NABC on Tuesday announced the 2022 NABC Division III All-District Teams and District Coaches of the Year. The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division III.

The CUW senior made an appearance on the District 8 All-Region First Team. Joining Johnson on the first team was Nyameye Adom of Elmhurst, Maurice Knight of Anderson, Matthew Leritz of Illinois Wesleyan, Jack Nolan of Washington University in St. Louis and Jake Rhode of Elmhurst.

The NABC also announced that Jordan Johnson will compete in the 2022 NABC – Reese's Division III College All-Star Game, to be held Saturday, March 19 at 3:00 p.m. ET at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind.

"I am also blessed to play in the D3 all-star game this upcoming weekend," said Johnson. "It will be fun to play with all the best players in the country. Most importantly, it will be one last time to represent CUW on a national level."

The Division III All-Star Game, held in conjunction with the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship, features the top senior talent across Division III. Rosters include representation from each Division III region.

D3hoops.com also announced their all-region teams on Tuesday morning. Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, and schools and conferences were each contacted multiple times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. There were 746 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.

Johnson was named to the All-Region 8 Second Team.

On the court this year, Johnson scored 517 points, 145 rebounds, 74 assists, 24 steals, and eight blocks.
