Field Hockey Enjoyed Time at Home

MEQUON, Wis. – Home sweet, home, was a theme for the Falcons in 2021. The Falcons hosted a program-record nine contests and the SAA Field Hockey Tournament in the 2021 season.

The Falcons finished the season with a 7-11 record and finished in third place in the Southern Athletic Association with a 2-2 record.

The Blue and White had a program record of nine home contests during the year and went 6-3 at Tomasini Stadium.

The birds opened the home portion of the schedule with their first-ever victory over DePauw in program history.

The Falcons also scored eight goals in an 8-0 victory against Oberlin.

The defense shined for the Falcons in the 2021 season.

Junior Emily Binley (Suffolk, Va.) was named the SAA Defensive Player of the Year. She also broke the program record with 24 saves against Centre. She also broke the season record for saves at 161, victories with seven, and shutouts with six. Binley was also named the SAA Defensive Player on two separate occasions in 2021.

Sophomore Abby McGue (St. Louis, Mo.) also broke the school record with six defensive saves.

Freshman Paige Armijo led the CUW attack with seven goals and two assists for 16 points.

CUW landed five All-SAA selections in Emily Binley, junior AnnaLyssia Abela (Dearborn, Mich.) and junior Lorri Pitock (Naperville, Ill.) on the first team and Paige Armijo and Abby McGue on the second team.

The Falcons also soared in the classroom with an NFHCA Scholar Team Award and nine NFCHA Academic Squad selections.

The Falcons are poised for a strong 2022 season.
