Field Hockey wins again with shutout over Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Field Hockey team put together its most impressive performance of its inaugural season Saturday, posting a 5-0 win over Hendrix College. The Falcons scored twice in the opening half and tallied three more in the second for the five-goal victory, the second straight win for CUW.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman Sophia Kottmer (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored the first of her two goals in the 28th minute to put the Falcons on the board. She would add a goal late in the second half for a two-goal effort in the road win.

- Senior Rachel Scholz (Cedarburg, Wis.) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season with just 16 seconds remaining in the first half. Freshman Isabelle Bilton (Burlington, Ontario) assisted on the play.

- The Falcons would come out strong in the second half, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes. The first of those was a goal off the stick of freshman Kelsey Fulton (Sussex, Wis.), which was assisted by Kottmer. Then freshman Sam Dunn (Sussex, Wis.) joined in on the act with her second score of the year.

- Kottmer would put the game away with another unassisted score with 3:56 remaining in the contest.

- Freshman goalie Kennedy Boyer (Saline, Mich.) recorded six saves in picking up her first career shutout.

- The Falcons controlled possession throughout with a 32-10 edge in shots, including a 24-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Falcons also had 11 penalty corners, compared to just two for the Warriors.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The win was the second straight for CUW in games which count against its record. The Falcons took on Bellarmine on Thursday in an exhibition contest, falling 7-1. CUW defeated Eastern Mennonite last weekend by a 4-2 score, the first win in program history.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will look to keep things rolling against Rhodes tomorrow in a contest which will conclude another weekend road swing. CUW and Rhodes are set for a noon eastern start.
