Esports Claims WVAC LAN Tournament Championship

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The CUW esports program etched its name into the record books after securing the Wisconsin Valorant Academic Circuit (WVAC) LAN tournament for the first time in program history.

The journey to the trophy began in the opening round, as CUW faced the UW-Stout Blue Devils, a team Concordia had split the season series with. Despite a 2-0 loss to UW-Stout on Oct. 22nd, CUW rebounded with a resounding 2-1 victory on Nov. 27th in the WVAC Upper Bracket.

Even while facing a determined UW-Stout Blue Devils squad, the Falcons fended off the Blue Devils as Concordia Wisconsin took another thrilling 2-1 victory to advance to the Grand Finals.

Joining them in the Grand Finals were the Panthers of UW-Milwaukee, a club that swept the Blue and White three days prior, 2-0.

Eager to avenge their loss earlier in the week, the Falcons came out with great intensity.

In a display of dominance, the Falcons were simply too much for the Panthers to handle. CUW secured three of four rounds, taking the 3-1 victory and claiming the WVAC Tournament LAN Tournament title.

Following his successful performance, freshman Zach Yang, underneath the gamertag "Bart," claimed the tournament Most Valuable Player award.

The championship win marked a historic achievement for the CUW esports program, solidifying their place as champions in the Wisconsin Valorant Academic Circuit.

With the win, the Falcons proved to be the best collegiate Valorant team in the state of Wisconsin.

"The work that these students put in is absolutely astounding. We spent a vast amount of time studying, revising, and implementing new plays a week before the tournament, and all their hard work paid off. Being labeled an underdog always lights a fire under the players, and they played to their fullest potential," said head coach Jack Slater following his team's triumph. "I am incredibly proud of this Valorant team, and I believe they have a bright future ahead of them in Esports. Being a rank one collegiate Valorant team has a nice ring to it," continued Slater.

The win caps off a successful fall semester for the Falcons Valorant squad, and they will look to carry this momentum into the spring.
